The Government has awarded contracts to establish and upgrade water and sewerage systems in 11 islands under contractor financing arrangements, in ongoing efforts to expand basic infrastructure services nationwide.
The projects have been awarded to Altec Maldives Private Limited, with agreements signed by State Minister for Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Ismail Hameed on behalf of the Government and General Manager Hussain Thasmeen on behalf of the company.
The scope of the projects includes the development of water supply systems in Raa Rasmaadhoo, Faafu Feeali and Thaa Buruni, as well as the replacement of existing sewerage systems with new gravity-based systems in Laamu Isdhoo, Kalaidhoo and Dhanbidhoo.
In addition, the company has been tasked with completing ongoing water and sewerage projects in Raa Angolhitheem, Raa Vaadhoo, Laamu Hithadhoo and Gaafu Alifu Dhevvadhoo, while an agreement has also been signed to upgrade the water supply system in Fuvahmulah City.
The projects form part of Government initiatives to improve access to essential services across the islands, with contractor-financed models being utilised to accelerate the delivery of infrastructure development.
