Land reclamation in Llhaviyani Naifaru has reached 54 per cent completion, according to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The project, which commenced in October 2025, involves the reclamation of 44.8 hectares of land in efforts to address housing needs and support urban development on the island.
The MVR 679 million project is scheduled for completion within one year and nine months, and includes the construction of 1,813 metres of rock revetment, 803 metres of outer wall, and 474 metres of rock groyne. Authorities said the project aims to support Naifaru’s growing population, currently over 5,000 residents, and facilitate the island’s development as an urban centre, with additional land reclamation also planned to meet future infrastructure and housing demands.
