MVR 1.1 billion spent on public sector projects under PSIP

Financial reports released by the Ministry of Finance and Planning has revealed that a total of MVR 1.1 billion has been spent on various projects carried out under the Government’s Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP), aimed at developing public services and infrastructure.

A total of MVR 8.3 billion has been allocated to the PSIP this year in the State budget. The Ministry’s financial statements indicate that from 1 January to 2 April, MVR 1.1 billion had already been utilised.

The reports further reveal that the largest share of PSIP expenditure has been directed towards economic sectors. A total of MVR 496.7 million was spent on economic-related projects, with the highest portion allocated to transport infrastructure, amounting to MVR 345.3 million.The second-highest spending was recorded in the energy and utilities sector, with MVR 139.2 million invested in related projects.

Projects linked to public services accounted for MVR 257.7 million in expenditure, of which MVR 253.7 million was spent on land management initiatives. Environmental protection projects saw spending of MVR 39.3 million.

In the health sector, MVR 118.9 million was spent on infrastructure development and related projects aimed at improving healthcare services.

Additionally, MVR 50.4 million was allocated to religious affairs projects, while MVR 44.8 million was spent on sports-related initiatives. The education sector also saw investments totalling MVR 54.6 million.
