The Elections Commission of Maldives has announced that 4,114 individuals are eligible to vote in the North Hithadhoo constituency by-election scheduled for June 6.

The Commission has published the voter registry in the Government Gazette and at the Hithadhoo Office in Addu City, while also opening a window for complaints regarding the list. Eligible voters and stakeholders have been given the opportunity to submit corrections or objections to the registry.

According to the Commission, complaints can be submitted until 2:00 p.m. on April 27 through its main portal, with supporting documentation required for any request to add or remove names from the list. Political parties are required to file complaints through the portal designated for party use.

The by-election follows a ruling by the Supreme Court of the Maldives that vacated the seat held by former MP Mohamed Sinan due to failure to repay a court-ordered debt. The Elections Commission has also opened candidacy applications for the by-election, with submissions accepted until 3:00 p.m. on April 29.

Political parties have begun preparations for the vote, including opening applications for internal primaries, as the constituency prepares to elect a new representative.
