The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has donated 50 tonnes of dates to the Maldives, reflecting continued humanitarian assistance from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The donation was officially handed over at a ceremony held at the Islamic Centre, where Saudi Ambassador to the Maldives Yahya bin Ali Al-Qahtani presented the consignment on behalf of the Saudi government. The aid was received by Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Dr Shaheem noted that Saudi Arabia has been extending assistance to the Maldives for the past 22 years, describing the donation as a reflection of the strong and longstanding ties between the two countries. He also expressed appreciation to the Saudi government and its embassy in Malé for their continued support.
The minister added that the dates will be distributed to beneficiaries in a fair and transparent manner, noting that the contribution reflects solidarity and cooperation within the Islamic community.
In addition to the 50-tonne consignment, a further 10 tonnes of dates donated by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs have already been distributed to various institutions and sectors across the Maldives.
