Second round of Council and WDC elections begins across five constituencies

Voting for the second round of the Local Council elections and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections began at 8:00 am today.

The Elections Commission said 6,172 ballot papers have been printed for the vote, which is being held across five constituencies to fill five positions. These include the councillor seat for the Dhadimagu constituency in Fuvahmulah, the council seat in Baa Dhonfan, and WDC positions in Haa Alifu Kelaa, Haa Dhaalu Neykurendhoo, and Laamu Maavah.

The second round is being held after candidates in these constituencies received an equal number of votes in the first round. A total of 14 ballot boxes have been arranged, the Commission confirmed.

Two ballot boxes have been placed in each of Kelaa, Maavah, and the Dhadimagu district of Fuvahmulah, while one ballot box has been placed in each of Neykurendhoo and Dhonfan.

A total of 6,093 voters are registered for the second round, including 1,729 in Kelaa, 1,056 in Neykurendhoo, 441 in Dhonfan, 1,556 in Maavah, and 1,311 in the Dhadimagu constituency.

The Commission also announced that six ballot boxes have been arranged in Malé. Voters from Kelaa and Dhonfan will cast their ballots at Thaajuddeen School, while those from Neykurendhoo and Maavah will vote at Hiriya School. Ballots for the Dhadimagu constituency will be cast at Dharumavantha School.
