Cabinet Ministers that resigned

Chief Government Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Mohamed Hussain Shareef, has said the resignation of 10 Cabinet ministers was aimed at creating space for meaningful changes in the way the Government operates, in line with public expectations.

Speaking on State media, Shareef said the resignations were not linked to any loss of confidence in the ministers, but were part of efforts to facilitate improvements sought by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in the delivery of Government services.

The ministers submitted their resignations on the 14th of this month, prompting speculation in sections of the media and among political opponents.

Responding to these claims, Shareef said the ministers continue to maintain a strong working relationship with the Government. He added that the reasons for the resignations had been clearly outlined, stressing that the move was intended to enable the implementation of necessary reforms.

He reiterated that the decision “is not related to confidence,” and said its impact would become clearer in the coming days. Shareef also noted that the changes would not affect the overall stability of the Government.

He further said the adjustments are expected to improve the efficiency of Government operations, with results likely to become visible in the near term.

Following the changes, the reconstituted Cabinet now consists of 15 members, making it the smallest Cabinet formed in the Maldives in the past two decades.
