The Government of Maldives has welcomed the announcement by the United States of a ceasefire arrangement in Lebanon.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Maldives views the development as a positive step towards de-escalation, highlighting the importance of protecting civilians and ensuring freedom of navigation to support the uninterrupted flow of global trade.

The Government also expressed appreciation for the roles played by the United States and the government of Lebanon in facilitating the ceasefire.

Reaffirming its support for international efforts to restore peace and stability, the Maldivian Government said the development presents an opportunity for dialogue and diplomacy to advance a lasting resolution to the conflict.

US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that the leaders of Israel and Lebanon had agreed to a 10-day ceasefire, which took effect at 17:00 EST on 16 April.
