Fares have been introduced for the Malé Taxi Line service, which had been operating free of charge since its launch earlier this month.

The service provider, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), stated that charges came into effect from today.

Arrangements have been made for passengers to book rides and make payments through MTCC’s web application, as well as via the 1655 hotline.

MTCC said fares for the service are set in accordance with rates determined by the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade.

Fares rates:

  • Travel within Malé, Hulhumalé Phase 1, and Hulhumalé Phase 2: MVR 30
  • From Hulhumalé Phase 1 to Hulhumalé Phase 2: MVR 40
  • From Malé to Hulhulé and Hulhulé to Malé: MVR 70
  • From Hulhumalé Phase 1 to Hulhulé and Hulhulé to Hulhumalé Phase 1: MVR 80
  • From Malé to Hulhumalé Phase 1 and Hulhumalé Phase 1 to Malé: MVR 85
  • From Malé to Hulhumalé Phase 1 and Hulhumalé Phase 1 to Malé: MVR 85
  • From Malé to Hulhumalé Phase 2 and Hulhumalé Phase 2 to Malé: MVR 100

The Government-operated taxi line was introduced following extensive study and planning as part of efforts to address ongoing transport challenges in the Greater Malé area. A total of 150 vehicles are being deployed under the service.

Since its launch on the second day of this month, the taxi line had been offered free of charge. MTCC stated that this initial period was intended to improve service quality and gather public feedback before fares were introduced.
