A total of 3,689 tourists arrived in the Maldives aboard two cruise liners that docked in Malé yesterday.
In a post on X, Maldives Immigration said the vessels Azamara Onward and MS Norwegian Sun arrived from India and Thailand respectively, with all passengers and crew cleared by its Seaport Division.
The Azamara Onward, arriving from Cochin, carried 583 passengers and 388 crew members, while the MS Norwegian Sun, which arrived from Phuket, brought 1,816 passengers and 902 crew members.
Cruise vessels visiting the Maldives typically make stops in Malé and other islands, allowing tourists to visit multiple destinations across the atolls.
Authorities said cruise tourism continues to support the tourism sector and the wider economy, particularly at a time when arrivals have been affected by global developments, including tensions in the Middle East, despite overall record figures this year.
The Government has also announced plans to develop dedicated cruise jetties in different parts of the country to support the expansion of cruise tourism.
