President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to introduce legislation regulating the use of artificial intelligence in Parliament.
Responding to a question on AI during the press briefing, the President said the bill will be presented alongside three key pieces of legislation outlined in this year’s Presidential Statement, covering digital transformation, digital identity and cybersecurity.
He said the proposed law forms part of the Government’s “Maldives 2.0” initiative, aimed at advancing nationwide digitalisation and improving public service delivery.
The President noted that while artificial intelligence must be embraced to remain at the forefront of digital development, it also requires a legal framework to ensure proper regulation.
He added that the Government aims to complete the digitalisation of State services by next year, alongside efforts to establish a unified civil registration system within this year.
The initiative is part of efforts to modernise governance systems and enhance efficiency in public service delivery.
