The Housing Development Corporation has announced plans to establish outdoor gyms in 58 islands as part of projects under the Government’s Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP).

HDC said development of outdoor gym facilities has commenced in 71 islands, with new gyms to be built in 58 islands while existing facilities in 13 islands are being upgraded.

According to the company, equipment installation is ready to begin in several islands, including Haa Alifu Hoarafushi, Shaviyani Maaungoodhoo, Shaviyani Bileffahi, Shaviyani Goidhoo, Raa Dhuvaafaru, Baa Maalhos, Baa Hithaadhoo, Alifu Dhaali Dhigurah, Alifu Dhaalu Maamigili, Faafu Magoodhoo, Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo, Thaa Vandhoo and Gaafu Alifu Villingili.

HDC added that development work is progressing at pace in other islands, including Alifu Dhaalu Hangnaameedhoo, Baa Dharavandhoo, Haa Dhaalu Hanimaadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Naivaadhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Kunburudhoo, Alifu Alifu Feridhoo, Haa Dhaalu Nellaidhoo and Raa Rasmaadhoo, while drawings for remaining locations have been approved and implementation is ongoing.

The initiative forms part of efforts to improve public recreational infrastructure and promote healthier lifestyles across island communities.
