Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan has dismissed circulating claims regarding the recent death in Dhanaal, stating that information suggesting the victim had unsuccessfully attempted to contact police prior to the incident is inaccurate.
Speaking at a press briefing at the President’s Office, the minister outlined the sequence of communication between the victim and the Maldives Police Service, noting that initial contact was made via the Police Victim Support Viber line at 8:40 p.m. on April 20, with responses exchanged shortly after. Further messages were received later in the evening, followed by a final message after midnight, to which Victim Support responded within minutes.
He said that after the victim went offline, Victim Support alerted the police command centre at 1:03 a.m., with officers entering the premises at 1:08 a.m. and identifying the location shortly thereafter.
The minister emphasised that claims suggesting a lack of response from authorities are unfounded, urging the public to refrain from sharing unverified information, particularly in cases involving sensitive personal circumstances.
He added that an internal review will be conducted into the handling of the case, with independent institutions also expected to examine the matter.
