President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has returned to Malé after concluding his visit to several islands in South Ari Atoll.
During his trip, the President engaged with local communities, local councils, and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs), addressing concerns related to development and public services. His discussions highlighted the aspirations of the local population and the challenges faced by the islands.
As part of his visit, the President inspected health centres and schools across the atoll, assessing their conditions and identifying areas in need of improvement.
Speaking to the people, he announced several significant initiatives aimed at enhancing local governance and economic stability. In Adh. Dhangethi, he revealed that members of WDCs would receive Ramadan benefits starting in 2025.
The President had also made several other announcements including pledging to address the country’s ongoing foreign exchange challenges, stating that the dollar shortage would be resolved within six to twelve months through the proper implementation of the recently ratified Foreign Currency Bill. He also announced plans to amend legislation to allocate a percentage of tourism revenue directly to local councils, enhancing their financial autonomy.
Referring to the recent fire that damaged the building housing three Government ministries, the President reaffirmed the Administration’s resilience in addressing challenges and expressed support for affected employees and the public.
This visit marked the final leg of a series of nationwide tours undertaken by President Dr Muizzu this year, during which he met with councils across the Maldives. He announced plans to visit all inhabited islands in the country in 2025 as well.
The President was accompanied by a high-level Government delegation during the trip.
