Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan has stressed the importance of responsible and ethical journalism in an increasingly digital world.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Asia Media Summit 2026, the minister said the role of the media is becoming increasingly important in driving digital transformation and shaping society. He noted that the media is not only responsible for reporting change, but also plays a major role in creating change.

Addressing challenges faced in the digital era, minister Ihusaan said the spread of misinformation, online manipulation and attempts to influence public thinking are among the major issues emerging alongside digitalisation.

According to the minister, the solution is not to fear technology or resist innovation, but to strengthen ethical journalism, improve digital literacy, encourage responsible communication and ensure public access to reliable information. He also highlighted the role of media institutions in educating the public on issues related to technology, artificial intelligence, cyber security and digital responsibility.

The minister noted that digital media platforms are rapidly changing the way people interact with governments, institutions and one another. Minister Ihusaan urged journalists to uphold ethical standards while promoting inclusive, innovative and future-oriented media systems.

He further stressed the importance of supporting journalists and media professionals in adapting to the realities of the digital age while maintaining accuracy, fairness and public trust in information. The minister added that technological advancements should strengthen social unity rather than create divisions within society.
