The Maldives has become the first country to issue Nusuk cards to pilgrims before their departure for Hajj, according to authorities overseeing Hajj arrangements this year.
The process of issuing the cards has begun for pilgrims travelling on the first Hajj flight, with the Maldives Hajj Corporation completing biometric procedures and distributing the cards ahead of departure. The Nusuk card is a mandatory document for all pilgrims and must be carried throughout the Hajj pilgrimage.
The Nusuk card, issued by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, serves as official proof that pilgrims have obtained the required permissions to participate in Hajj rituals. Officials noted that pilgrims will be required to present the card when travelling between pilgrimage sites and at various checkpoints during the pilgrimage period.
According to authorities, the card contains key information including biometric details, visa information, Hajj permit details and information relating to service providers assisting pilgrims in Makkah. Emergency contact information, health details and transport-related information are also included on the card.
Saudi Arabia has introduced a range of digital initiatives in recent years aimed at strengthening Hajj management and improving services provided to pilgrims. Authorities also advised pilgrims to register on the Nusuk mobile application and to immediately report any lost cards to relevant officials during the pilgrimage.
