Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr Abdulla Muththalib has stated that success without integrity cannot be considered true success, stressing that hard work and ethical values remain essential despite rapid technological advancement.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Islamic University of Maldives, Minister Dr Muththalib stated that although the world is advancing into the era of artificial intelligence and modern technology, work ethic and dedication continue to be fundamental to achieving meaningful success.
He said achievements gained through harming others, violating rights or causing suffering cannot be regarded as genuine success. He further stressed the importance of strengthening moral values among younger generations, warning that societies could face increasing challenges if ethical principles are neglected.
Highlighting contemporary global and national challenges, the minister referred to issues including climate change, mental health concerns, political conflict, housing shortages, widening economic inequality and the spread of misinformation through artificial intelligence and digital platforms. He said graduates must be prepared to confront such issues responsibly and contribute positively to society.
The minister also urged students not to prioritise image-building and social media recognition over personal growth and contribution to society. He stated that education and achievements should serve a meaningful purpose beyond public display, adding that the future of the Maldives would depend on the decisions and leadership of today’s educated youth.
