The Maldives and Seychelles have implemented a Visa Exemption Agreement allowing citizens of both countries to travel visa-free for short stays of up to 30 days.

Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam stated that the agreement officially entered into force on May 15 during the first official visit to the Maldives by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Seychelles Barry Faure.

The minister said the implementation of the agreement highlights another important step in strengthening relations between the Maldives and Seychelles, while also reflecting the close friendship and cooperation shared by the two Small Island Developing States.

Minister Iruthisham further expressed hope that the agreement would strengthen people-to-people ties, boost tourism arrivals and tourism-related investments, and encourage more Maldivians and Seychellois to experience the natural beauty of both countries.

The Maldives and Seychelles established diplomatic relations on July 1, 1980. This year marks the 46th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
