President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to climate action, stressing that the country's future is closely linked to the health of the planet.

In a message shared on X, the President highlighted the Maldives' vulnerability to climate change as a Small Island Developing State and stressed the urgent need to protect and preserve the environment in the face of growing climate-related challenges.

The President said the Maldives remains committed to advancing ambitious climate action through initiatives such as Project Solar City, strengthening disaster preparedness and early warning systems, and promoting community-based adaptation and ecosystem protection measures.

He noted that the climate crisis is affecting people, ecosystems and natural resources around the world, adding that addressing these challenges requires coordinated global efforts focused on climate adaptation, mitigation and sustainable practices.

The President also emphasised the importance of greater awareness and shared responsibility in responding to environmental challenges. He called for collective action to protect and preserve the environment to ensure a safer and more prosperous future.

World Environment Day is observed annually on June 5 to raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage action to protect the planet.
