Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed has said the Government aims to resolve key transport sector challenges in the Greater Malé Region by 2028.
Speaking at a ceremony held in Vilimalé to launch the Malé Taxi Line service, Minister Saeed said Government ministries are working together under the direction of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to address long-standing transport issues that have remained unresolved for years.
The minister said efforts are focused on addressing challenges related to parking, vehicle registration and traffic congestion. He added that the Government would share a comprehensive plan with the public at a later stage.
Minister Saeed described the expansion of the Malé Taxi Line to Vilimalé as part of the Administration's efforts to strengthen the transport network across the Greater Malé Region. He said improving transport services remains one of the President's key priorities and noted that the taxi service would be expanded further based on public demand.
Speaking at the ceremony, Member of Parliament for Vilimalé constituency Mohamed Ismail said previous administrations had neglected the needs of Vilimalé, while the current Government had prioritised the island since taking office. He said major development projects, including housing and healthcare initiatives, were now being implemented in Vilimalé.
The Malé Taxi Line was introduced under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's initiative to address taxi shortages and improve transport services across the Greater Malé Region.
