In a special interview with Uzbek media, MinisterDr Shaheem commended Uzbekistan's efforts to preserve its rich Islamic heritage and promote the legacy of Islamic civilisation. He said the forum brings together leading scholars and intellectuals from across the world, providing an important opportunity to exchange ideas and develop solutions to contemporary global issues.

Minister Dr Shaheem reaffirmed the Maldives' unwavering commitment to combating religious extremism, takfir – the practice of declaring fellow Muslims as non-believers – and terrorism. He also encouraged Muslims in Uzbekistan to remain steadfast in following Islam's path of moderation, promoting tolerance, balance and rejecting all forms of extremism.

Emphasising that Islam is a religion of peace, the Minister said Muslims have a shared responsibility to stand united against radical ideologies and terrorism. He stressed that terrorism is unequivocally forbidden in Islam and called for continued efforts to uphold the religion's principles of compassion, coexistence and mutual respect.

Highlighting Uzbekistan's longstanding reputation as a centre of Islamic scholarship and learning, Minister Dr Shaheem noted that both the Maldives and Uzbekistan are members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), sharing strong religious and cultural ties within the wider Islamic community.

The Minister also welcomed the growing number of Uzbek visitors travelling to the Maldives, describing the country's hospitality as a source of pride for Maldivians and reaffirming their commitment to warmly receiving international guests.

Concluding the interview, Minister Dr Shaheem praised Uzbekistan's natural beauty and rich historical heritage and expressed confidence that the Maldives would continue to support the country's efforts to further strengthen its tourism industry through enhanced bilateral cooperation.
