The People's National Congress (PNC) has commenced its constituency elections across the Maldives to elect party officials for constituency steering committees.

The internal vote will elect presidents, vice presidents and committee members for constituency committees nationwide. In constituencies without a PNC Member of Parliament, members will elect constituency presidents, while constituencies represented by a PNC MP will vote for vice presidents.

PNC said voting is taking place in 131 island constituencies where the number of candidates exceeds the available positions.

Once the election process is completed, more than 2,000 party positions will be filled.

The PNC had earlier completed preparations for the nationwide internal elections to ensure polling is conducted smoothly.
