Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr Abdulla Muththalib has said all Government development projects are expected to be completed by mid-2028, despite delays inherited from the previous administration and challenges in implementing new initiatives.

Responding to a question during Monday's parliamentary sitting, Minister Dr Muththalib said the current Administration inherited around MVR 40 billion worth of projects that had either not been contracted, had stalled or experienced significant delays under the previous Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) government. Rather than halting those projects, he said President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had decided to continue them alongside projects pledged under his own Administration.

The minister acknowledged that implementing both inherited and newly launched projects within the available State budget had posed significant challenges, resulting in delays to some developments. He added that the Government itself recognised that progress had not been as fast as intended.

Minister Dr Muththalib, however, said a comprehensive implementation schedule had now been established and expressed confidence that all projects would be completed by mid-2028. He said the Government was working towards ensuring the public begins benefiting from the completed projects within that timeframe.
