More than 25,000 people have used the Malé Taxi Line app since its launch, with the platform recording over 70,000 trips so far.
Speaking on the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade’s “Trade Desk with Ana” podcast, Department Manager of Malé Taxi Line at MTCC's Transport Services Division Abdulla Iyaadh Adam said the service has made it easier for people to book taxis in Malé City while improving the overall quality and reliability of the service
The Malé Taxi Line fleet currently comprises 150 vehicles, including electric vehicles and cars of different sizes to cater to varying passenger needs. Iyaadh said drivers undergo training in customer service, road safety and first aid to improve service standards.
Passengers can book rides through the Malé Taxi Line app or by calling 1655, while all payments are processed digitally through the application, including via its in-app wallet.
Iyaadh said two new features have recently been introduced to the app: automatic driver assignment, which matches passengers with the nearest available vehicle to reduce waiting times, and an emergency button that immediately alerts the operations team if a passenger requires assistance. The app also supports live trip tracking and allows passengers and drivers to communicate through in-app messaging and calls.
He added that traffic congestion and roadside parking remain the biggest operational challenges affecting taxi services in Malé City, often resulting in delays during journeys.
