Dr Mohamed Zahir Hussain to receive Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that Dr Mohamed Zahir Hussain, Chancellor of the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), will be awarded the nation’s highest civilian honour, the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin (ODRI), in recognition of his significant contributions to the Maldivian education sector.
Known for his long-standing dedication to advancing education, Dr Zahir Hussain has been instrumental in shaping policies and institutions that have broadened access to quality education across the Maldives.
The award will be presented to Dr Zahir Hussain on 10th November 2024, in a ceremony at Dharubaaruge in Malé at 2015hrs to mark Republic Day. The Republic Day function is an annual event celebrating individuals who have made meaningful contributions to the nation’s development.
In addition to Dr Zahir Hussain’s honour, the President’s National Award for Special Achievement will be presented to 40 selected individuals, acknowledging excellence across various fields. Another 53 individuals will be recognised for dedicated service to the state, chosen by the National Awards Committee.
The Republic Day ceremony is expected to underscore the Maldivian government’s commitment to recognising exemplary service and achievement.
