President Dr Mohamed Muizzu officially inaugurated the newly constructed water and sewerage networks in Hoandehdhoo, marking a significant milestone in improving the quality of life for the island's residents.

The project, which commenced on June 13, 2022, was financed under the Exim Bank of India’s line of credit. The work was undertaken by Triveni Engineering & Industries Limited, an Indian company, with a total expenditure exceeding USD 4.9 million.

The island now boasts five sewage pump stations and newly constructed sea outfalls. A robust water supply system has been installed across Hoandehdhoo, with connections provided to individual households. Additionally, two reverse osmosis (RO) plants capable of producing 75 tonnes of water per day have been established, alongside two large water storage tanks to ensure a consistent supply.

With a population of approximately 800 people, Hoandehdhoo has historically faced severe challenges during the rainy season due to inadequate sanitation facilities. Flooding and contamination posed significant risks to public health and safety.

The introduction of this modern water and sewerage infrastructure promises to alleviate these issues and improve residents' access to clean water and proper sanitation.
