On the sidelines of the 29th conference of the parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), President Dr Muizzu met with the United Nations Secretary General António Guterres, to discuss critical issues regarding climate change and debt burdens faced by small developing states.

During their meeting, President Dr Muizzu extended his gratitude to the UN for their continued efforts to support small island developing states and highlighted the role of international financial institutions in addressing climate change and debt burden.

The Secretary General acknowledged the vulnerabilities of small developing states and reaffirmed his commitment to securing the support of international financial institutions. 

Both leaders concluded the meeting after reassuring their ongoing cooperation to address climate change and other developmental goals.
