President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to establish a national heritage database this year, aimed at preserving and consolidating information on Maldivian cultural heritage in a single accessible platform.

Delivering the Presidential Address at the opening session of parliament, the President highlighted the importance of national identity and patriotism, stating that efforts are underway to safeguard the country’s heritage.

The database, to be developed under the Dhivehi National Heritage Research Centre in collaboration with foreign universities, will use advanced 3D scanning technology and other modern tools to document historical sites and artefacts.

As part of broader heritage conservation efforts, the Government will introduce a standardised framework to define Maldivian culture and history. Additionally, a park connected to Usgekolhu, Kalhuohfunmi, and Usgekolhu will be transformed into a state-of-the-art museum featuring interactive exhibits.

A national project to protect the historical artifacts of Boduthakurufaanu era will also be launched in Haa Alif Atoll this year, aligning with the Government’s policy of generating revenue through heritage preservation.

The President further announced plans to introduce key legislative measures, including the The Dhivehi National Heritage College bill as part of efforts to strengthen national identity and heritage protection.
