The Maldives Police Service has announced the launch of the National Emergency Call Centre – 911.
The service was announced at the ceremony held last night at Iskandhar building and was attended by senior members of the Police, MNDF and senior health officials. Minister for Homeland Security Mr. Ali Ihusaan attended the ceremony as Guest of Honour.
The Minister pointed out that many people recognise 911 as an emergency number due to its portrayal in movies and documentaries and emphasised that the service will be expanded in the future.
The Minister also noted that when President Dr Muizzu decided to introduce 911 as the emergency number, he took into account how it is a number widely recognised by people of all ages.
While emergency services were previously accessed using different numbers, the newly introduced hotline number seeks to streamline all emergency services with a single call to 911.
In a post on their official X account, the Maldives Police Service stated that this new centre is structured to improve coordination, delivering faster and more efficient responses in critical moments.
