The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has dismissed its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Abdulla Faid and Chief Business Officer (CBO) Ahmed Yameen, both of whom were previously suspended as part of an investigation into irregularities in the allocation of land and flats under the Gedhoruveriya and Binveriya housing schemes.
Both officials were among the 15 employees suspended in December 2024 when authorities launched a probe into corruption allegations involving former Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed. Though some suspensions were later lifted, Faid and Yameen remained under investigation, leading to their termination.
The probe began after leaked documents suggested land in Hulhumalé had been allocated to individuals not on the official recipient list. Among those implicated was Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, the brother of Fazul Rasheed and former Deputy Managing Director of the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), who allegedly received a land plot under questionable circumstances.
Following these revelations, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Maldives Police Service launched formal investigations.
Authorities have yet to disclose further details on the investigation or any potential legal action.
