Parliament has approved Thoriq Ibrahim as the Minister of Tourism and Environment, following a merger of two key Ministries earlier this month.

The approval came with 69 votes in favour during a parliamentary session that followed the Government Oversight Committee's recommendation.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had submitted the nomination on February 10, after merging the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy with the Ministry of Tourism on February 1. The consolidated Ministry has been renamed as the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

Thoriq Ibrahim had already assumed his role as Minister of the merged ministries at the beginning of this month.
