Parliament to review President’s Non-Resident Ambassador appointments

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has sought parliamentary approval for the appointment of Non-Resident Ambassadors to five countries.

The President’s letter detailing the nominations was read out during Monday’s Parliament session, after which the matter was referred to the Foreign Relations Committee for further review.

Under the proposed appointments, Dr Mariyam Shabina Ahmed, the Maldivian Ambassador to Malaysia, will also serve as the Non-Resident Ambassador to Brunei.

Geela Ali, the Ambassador to Belgium, has been nominated as the Non-Resident Ambassador to Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Iruthisham Adam, who currently represents the Maldives in the United Kingdom, will take on additional responsibilities as the Non-Resident Ambassador to France.

Mohamed Luveiz, the Maldivian Ambassador to Singapore, has been designated as the Non-Resident Ambassador to Australia.
