Parliament has approved Abdulla Nashid as the Vice President of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), following his nomination by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on February 11.
The Independent Institutions Committee reviewed the nomination and endorsed Nashid’s appointment without requiring an additional interview. The decision was passed unanimously, and the committee’s report was presented to Parliament, where 69 members voted in favour. Nashid holds a Master of Education from the Regional Institute of Education, India.
Under last year’s amendments to the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, the President now appoints the ACC’s President and Vice President, with parliamentary approval. Previously, these positions were elected among commission members.
The ACC, established under the Constitution ratified on 7 August 2008, is responsible for investigating corruption cases, referring them for prosecution when necessary, and advising relevant authorities on preventive measures. The five-member commission is chaired by Al-Ustaz Adam Shamil and includes Al-Ustaz Shiyama Mohamed, Shazna Hashim, Ahmed Nashid, and Abdulla Nashid.
