Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed that nine individuals were arrested in Baa Maarikilu on February 15, 2025, as part of a coordinated drug operation.

Led by the Counter Narcotics Intelligence, in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement and Baa Atoll Police, the operation followed a tip-off to the authorities, which led to the search of the suspects' premises in Maarikilu.

During the raid, officers recovered 162 cans of liquor, five bottles of liquor, and a quantity of suspected illegal drugs. Preliminary reports indicate that the drugs weighed approximately 12.8 grams.

The nine suspects were brought before the court for remand hearings. Among those arrested was a 65-year-old who was released on conditions. The remaining eight individuals were ordered to remain in custody for 15 days while the investigations continues.
