First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed has called upon today's students to harness the knowledge, skills, and experience shared by senior citizens.
The First Lady made these remarks during a ceremony held today celebrating the first anniversary of the Isravvehinge Naadhee.
In her speech, she emphasised that when senior citizens share their experiences, global perspectives, and worldly insights with young people, it strengthens youth confidence, improves their eloquence, and deepens their knowledge.
She also noted that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's initiative to establish such centres specifically for senior citizens, and transforming this vision into reality, demonstrates the Government's commitment to strengthening social bonds amongst Maldivians and highlights the attention given to acknowledging elderly citizens.
The Isravvehinge Naadhee, which was inaugurated last year by the Presidential Couple, fulfils President Dr Muizzu's pledge to develop and provide specialised centres for senior citizens across different regions of the Maldives.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Social and Family Development Dr Aishath Shiham revealed that the Ministry is in discussions with island councils to establish similar centres throughout the Maldives. The Minister highlighted the enthusiastic response to the initiative, noting that more than 60 councils have expressed interest in implementing the programme.
During today's ceremony, the Isravvehinge Naadhee logo and membership card were also unveiled.
As the Isravvehinge Naadhee celebrates its first anniversary today, the centre reports that more than 200 people have already registered as members.
