The Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) and the People's Majlis have launched a joint training programme for parliament members in Shariah and Law.

The programme features a one-year Advanced Certificate in Shariah and Law course. IUM has also announced that they are developing a bachelor’s degree programme in Shariah and Law specifically for parliament members.

In a meeting with IUM officials, the Speaker of the People's Majlis, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, explained that the main objective behind requesting this programme was to transform the 20th People's Majlis into an exemplary parliament comprising highly educated and intellectually capable members engaged in scholarly work. The Speaker noted that this vision aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s aspirations for the 20th People's Majlis.

During the meeting, the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance, Mr Ahmed Ameen Mohamed, expressed gratitude for the opportunity presented to IUM. He assured that the course would meet the standards set by both the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) and the Bar Council of Maldives.

The University's Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Dr Aishath Waheeda, and Registrar Mr Ahmed Rauf Abdulla, also outlined key areas of focus for prospective students.
