Parliament has approved significant changes to the operational mandates of three government ministries: The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, and the Ministry of Health.

The changes, proposed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, were reviewed by the Government Oversight Committee before receiving parliamentary approval. The committee endorsed all proposed modifications to the ministries' scope of work.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development's revised mandate encompasses higher education and training programmes, facilitating educational opportunities, providing financial assistance for higher education, regulatory oversight, management of the National Qualifications Framework, and workplace health and safety matters.

Under its new mandate, the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology will oversee domestic security, public order, crime reduction, and correctional services. The Ministry will also manage immigration affairs and implement policies regarding foreign employment in the Maldives. Additional responsibilities include juvenile justice, drug prevention programmes, science and technology initiatives, and national registration and demographic matters.

The Ministry of Health's updated mandate focuses on ensuring public health services, regulating healthcare facilities and practitioners, and overseeing the safety of food products, medicines, and medical equipment requiring health clearance. The Ministry will also manage blood donation services and care facilities for people with special needs.
