The Parliament has approved the appointment of ambassadors to five countries and representatives to four international organisations following a review by the Committee on Foreign Relations.
The committee’s reports were presented separately in Parliament, and each appointment was approved through a vote.
Delegates Appointed to International Organisations:
- International Maritime Organization (IMO): Maldives Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Iruthisham Adam
- International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA): Maldives Ambassador to the UAE, Mohamed Hussain Shareef
- World Trade Organization (WTO): Maldives’ Permanent Representative to the Friendly States Centres in Geneva, Dr Salma Rasheed
- Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC): Maldives Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Sareer
Ambassadors Appointed to Countries:
- Swiss Confederation: Maldives Permanent Representative to the Friendly States Centres in Geneva, Dr Salma Rasheed (Non-Resident Ambassador)
- Canada: Maldives Ambassador to the United States, Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed (Non-Resident Ambassador)
- Egypt: Maldives Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Sareer (Non-Resident Ambassador)
- Kuwait: Maldives Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Sareer (Non-Resident Ambassador)
- Bhutan: Maldives Ambassador to Bangladesh, Shiuneen Rasheed (Non-Resident Ambassador)
Additionally, Parliament has approved the Maldives' participation in the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, an international agreement governing copyright protection.
