The Maldives Police Service has launched a special operation to ensure road safety and manage traffic congestion in the Greater Malé Region during Ramadan.

The aim is to facilitate smoother movement for motorists and pedestrians, particularly as the city's roads become busier during this period.

Each year, throughout Ramadan, there is a significant increase in road congestion, with more people heading to markets and other locations. In response, the police conduct targeted efforts to mitigate traffic issues, ensuring safe and efficient use of roads. This includes assisting individuals transporting goods and helping to regulate the increased flow of pedestrians and vehicles.

As part of the operation, traffic police and road management authorities have begun informing shopkeepers and boat owners about road safety measures for the month. These efforts are intended to promote awareness and cooperation, helping to minimise disruptions and maintain order on the roads.
