President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated his commitment to strengthening decentralised governance, pledging to personally assess local needs and visit every inhabited island twice during his term. In a message on X for Decentralisation Day, he emphasised direct engagement with councils and communities to drive reforms. Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, also highlighted plans to enhance council capabilities by improving financial resources, infrastructure, and workspaces.
