The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has issued a warning to customers regarding a Facebook scam falsely claiming to sell a free smart card for RTL services.

In a press release issued on Monday, MTCC reported an increase in scams using the names of various organisations on social media platforms, with RTL, the public transport service under MTCC, being targeted in a recent fraudulent scheme.

The company identified a Facebook page named "Maldives Public Transport" that is selling a fake "smart card," which falsely promises free RTL travel for three months. MTCC clarified that this page is not affiliated with the company and that any official announcements regarding new services will be made through MTCC’s official social media accounts and other verified media channels.

Customers have been advised to remain cautious and avoid clicking on suspicious links sent in the name of MTCC or RTL. The company also urged the public not to transfer money to individuals or pages falsely claiming to represent MTCC and strongly condemned such fraudulent activities, calling them unethical attempts to exploit public trust.
