The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that there is no immediate threat to national security, following a large-scale counter-terrorism operation conducted by Maldivian security forces in Malé and Hulhumalé on Monday night.
The operation, undertaken by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), was initiated based on intelligence received from the police.
As a result, three suspects were apprehended, and multiple locations associated with them were searched. Security forces were deployed across Malé and Hulhumalé the night to ensure order and control.
In response to public concerns, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement yesterday, affirming that there is no cause for alarm at present. The statement highlighted that such operations are standard security measures conducted to protect the nation and its citizens upon receiving credible intelligence reports.
It remains uncertain whether the counter-terrorism operation has been fully concluded, as certain aspects are reportedly ongoing.
