Over four million worshippers gathered at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah on the 27th night of Ramadan.

Muslims from across the globe came together in hope of witnessing the blessed night that is believed to fall within the final ten days of Ramadan, most often associated with the 27th night, although its exact date remains unknown.

Worshippers arrived from early morning, filling every area of the mosques including rooftops, courtyards, basements, and the Third Saudi Expansion. Overflowing prayer lines extended into the streets surrounding the mosques. The faithful engaged in Taraweeh and late-night prayers, immersed in an atmosphere of devotion, reflection and supplication.

To manage the immense crowd, the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques implemented a comprehensive operational plan in coordination with security forces and relevant agencies. The Mataf area was prepared to accommodate more than 100,000 pilgrims per hour. Over 1,300 speakers were activated, while 428 escalators and 28 elevators facilitated movement throughout the mosque. Air-conditioning systems with a cooling capacity of 90,000 tons were also in full operation to maintain comfort.

Support services were enhanced across both mosques. Qur’ans in multiple languages were made widely available, cleaning and fumigation efforts were increased, and Zamzam water was continuously distributed. Trolley and electric cart services were provided to help ease movement across the mosque grounds.

In Makkah, the Health Affairs Department established medical centres inside the mosque and its courtyards to offer immediate medical support. More than 400 scouts from the Saudi Arabian Boy Scouts Association assisted with crowd control, guided worshippers, and provided support in healthcare centres.

Meanwhile in Madinah, preparations at the Prophet’s Mosque were also carried out with great attention. Prayer areas were cleaned and perfumed, environmental services were maintained, and Zamzam distribution and restroom facilities were kept fully operational. Various departments worked in close coordination to uphold comfort and safety for worshippers.

The 27th night witnessed one of the largest turnouts in recent years. According to Al-Ekhbariya, more than 4.2 million people were present at the Grand Mosque in Makkah. The night served as a powerful reminder of the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan, with Muslims coming together in pursuit of a night that is believed to be more rewarding than a thousand months.
