The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare has announced that more than 3.8 million plants have been imported into the Maldives so far this year.

According to the Ministry, a total of 405 plant shipments were inspected as of April 30, accounting for approximately 3.86 million plants. Of these, 368 shipments were approved for import, while 37 shipments containing 4,732 plants were seized for not meeting legal import requirements.

The Ministry stated that 4,408 plants from 35 shipments were destroyed due to regulatory violations, and two shipments comprising 324 plants were released after necessary documentation was completed.

Plants, including flowers and fruit-bearing varieties, are commonly imported into the Maldives from various countries for commercial purposes. However, such imports are subject to specific regulations and require official permits from the relevant authorities.
