The Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, has engaged in a virtual meeting with Maldivian students undergoing pilot training in Spain, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to addressing ongoing concerns related to their studies.

The online session, held earlier this week, was attended by students funded through the Government’s Higher Education and Training Loan Scheme. According to the Ministry, the discussion focused on key challenges students are currently facing, including visa-related difficulties and delays in receiving stipends.

Minister Dr Haidar acknowledged the issues raised and assured students that steps are being taken to resolve them. He stated that the Government remains committed to ensuring that students studying abroad under State-funded programmes receive adequate and timely support.

The Government has already introduced several measures in response to earlier concerns, including an increase in the overseas card limit for students, which now stands at USD 1,200. This adjustment is intended to help students manage living expenses more effectively.

In addition, the Ministry plans to launch an online portal in October this year. The platform aims to streamline communication between students and the Ministry, offering a dedicated space for reporting issues and receiving timely responses.

The Minister's meeting follows earlier consultations held with students on similar matters. The Ministry reiterated that ensuring the wellbeing of Maldivian students abroad remains a priority for the Administration.
