International flight arrivals to the Maldives rose notably in early 2025, with 4,880 flights landing between January and March, contributing to a total of 632,422 tourist arrivals in the first quarter of the year.

According to the Maldives Monetary Authority’s latest monthly statistics, tourist arrivals grew by 5.4 per cent compared to the same period last year, when flight arrivals stood at 4,628. Scheduled international services made up the majority of flights, while chartered and private jets also maintained a steady presence, reflecting continued demand from high-end travellers.

Despite the increase in arrivals, the average length of stay declined from 7.9 days to 6.8 days. As a result, total bednights fell slightly by 2.4 per cent, amounting to 3.99 million.

Europe continued to lead as the primary source market, accounting for more than 65 per cent of total arrivals. Countries such as Italy and the United Kingdom recorded growth, while the Chinese and Russians markets also performed well. In contrast, arrivals from India declined slightly.

The operational bed capacity increased to 62,550 by the end of March, supported by new resort and guesthouse developments. The national occupancy rate remained stable at 71.7 per cent, just below the 73.4 per cent recorded in the same quarter of the previous year.

With the upcoming opening of Velana International Airport’s new terminal and the introduction of additional flight routes, tourist arrivals are expected to increase in the coming months.
