The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has issued a formal weather alert regarding the onset of active southwest monsoon conditions across the country.

According to the official statement released on Sunday, the southwest monsoon is anticipated to become increasingly active over the Maldives over the next three days.

The advisory warns that the intensifying weather system may bring with it heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, and rough sea conditions across various regions of the country. These conditions could pose hazards to marine and aviation operations, as well as affect general day-to-day activities for residents and visitors alike.

In light of the forecast, the Met Office urges the public to remain attentive to weather updates and exercise caution.
