The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clarified that the Singapore government has not advised its citizens against travelling to the Maldives.
In response to misinformation circulating online, the Foreign Ministry issued a statement after several Maldivian news outlets incorrectly reported that Singapore had recommended its citizens to avoid travel to the Maldives except for essential purposes
According to the Ministry, Singapore officials have confirmed they have not issued any such advisory regarding the Maldives in recent history. The Ministry emphasised that the travel advisory statement being shared on social media is not a recent statement from the Singapore government.
The Foreign Ministry warned that spreading misinformation about countries with close ties to the Maldives could negatively affect both public interests and the national economy.
In light of this, the Foreign Ministry has urged the public to act responsibility when sharing information and to refrain from disseminating unverified reports, particularly those concerning friendly nations.
