President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to increasing the proportion of Maldivians in the nursing profession.

In a message marking International Nurses Day, the President noted that 92 per cent of nurses in the Maldives are women, describing this as a powerful reflection of the vital contribution Maldivian women make to the country’s healthcare system.

Highlighting the critical role of nurses, the President described the profession as one of the most challenging and honourable forms of service to humanity. He said nurses are the heart and backbone of the healthcare system, connecting its various components and delivering essential care with compassion and courage.

He also underscored the demanding and multifaceted nature of the profession, noting that nurses must support patients through every stage of life, from birth to death, while managing responsibilities to both families and physicians. Their dedication, he said, often comes at the expense of their own personal time and well-being.

The President further stated that his Administration is committed to strengthening support for nurses more than ever before, pledging to listen to their concerns and prioritise policies that directly benefit them.

He echoed these sentiments in a post shared on X, acknowledging the dedication of nurses and describing their service as a source of national pride.
