MTCC shares progress on key infrastructure projects in Raa and Alifu Alifu Atoll

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has shared progress updates on several major infrastructure projects underway across the country.

Raa Ungoofaaru land reclamation and shore protection

The land reclamation and shore protection project in Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru has reached 68 per cent completion. MTCC stated that revetment profiling work is currently ongoing, with 26 per cent of that component completed.

The project includes the reclamation of 3.07 hectares of land and the construction of 1,150 metres of revetment and a 75-metre groyne. An additional 5 hectares of land was later reclaimed as a variation to the original scope. The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure awarded the MVR 71.08 million project to MTCC on August 23, 2022.

Alifu Alifu Ukulhas major road development

The design and construction of major roads in Alifu Alifu Ukulhas is progressing steadily, with the overall project now 52 per cent complete. Current work includes the installation of high voltage (HV) cable junctions and paving blocks, while casting work has commenced for Pump Station A.

The scope of the project includes stormwater management, drainage and service lines, sidewalk paving, and carriageway construction. The MVR 56.11 million contract was awarded to MTCC by the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, with work mobilised on January 12, 2024.

Alifu Alifu Feridhoo harbour upgrade

Quay wall construction for the harbour upgrade project in Alifu Alifu Feridhoo has reached 90 per cent completion. MTCC confirmed that quay wall capping work is ongoing at the site.

The project, valued at MVR 50.8 million, was awarded to MTCC on January 16, 2023, and mobilised on August 15, 2023. It includes dredging of the harbour basin and channel, maintenance dredging of the old harbour, construction of a pavement, breakwater, revetment, quay wall, and harbour lights.
